Truman Madsen A Great LDS Theologian Dies

I've been reading the works of Truman G. Madsen, for more years that I can remember. Whenever I have attended Education Week at BYU, etc... Truman Madsen, was my FAVORITE speaker to learn from. He and his beautiful wife, Ann - are something special to Mormonism. I own many of his books, and tapes. Truman Madsen, for many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is very much on the same level in his abilities to instruct (dare I say it)as any apostle, in the Church. I often wondered throughout the years, if he would not be called to the Twelve, so profound were his teachings and understandings of LDS rituals, doctrines, etc...

I share the same sentiments as Brad, over on By Common Consent, in that "Mormonism lost a spiritual and intellectual giant this morning".

I thank him for this beautiful, yet brief, tribute to Truman G. Madsen:

"Truman Madsen was a respected and influential philosopher, professor, and writer. His wildly popular lectures on the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith have achieved near canonical status for millions of Church members over the decades. He served as a full time missionary in the New England Mission, and later as a mission president over the same mission. He later served as director of the BYU Jerusalem Center, and at the time of his passing was serving as patriarch in his stake. He earned a PhD from Harvard University and, at BYU, held the Richard L. Evans Chair of Religious Understanding. The power of his ideas and writings — including his famous Four Essays on Love — were only surpassed by the appeal of his personality. His influence on the faith and understanding of Latter-day Saints was profoundly positive and far-reaching."

Those who have heard the teachings of Truman Madsen on topics such as the Prophets of God, have gained a greater testimony of the hand of God, in these men's lives.

Many of us owe a greater understanding of temple symbolism, because of the teachings of Truman Madsen.

Oh how Brother Madsen loved the Savior, and taught us to greater understand His teachings.

The passing of Truman Madsen, is a great temporal loss, to many of us - but the words which he wrote and audibly spoke in teaching and testifying of eternal truths - will continue to benefit generations to come.

And his "voice", his marvelous voice by which he taught... UNFORGETTABLE!

Reject Prop 8 Protests As Expected

As expected, when the California Supreme Court judges released their opinion that they would uphold Proposition 8 -- there was a >>>LOUD<<< response by the homosexual community. Interesting thing is, the court also upheld 18 thousand same-sex marriages that from the perspective of many opponents to SSM, should never have happened.

Why then, are you and I NOT out marching the streets, carrying signs and spouting hate speech toward gays? It doesn't matter what state you live in, either -- this issue affects everyone. Anti-Prop 8 protesters are demonstrating in cities all across America! Couldn't we be actively protesting that the full intention of Proposition 8 was completely ignored by the Supreme Court? Yes, we could.

However, contrary to what many proponents of SSM believe, Proposition 8 was never an anti-gay issue. Nor should it be seen as an anti-Mormon issue, either.

As I ponder these pictures and video that I have posted, showing many who decided to take to the streets in protest of the Prop 8 decision, I am filled with compassion. I realize that most on those streets, could not begin to understand these feelings, coming from a "Mormon".

I don't profess to understand "all things" by any stretch of the imagination. But, I do know, that the FAMILY as God has ordained it, is central to our Heavenly Father's plan; and therefore we are called to protect and preserve the Divine Institution of marriage, which is vital for our eternal happiness.














The Church issued the following statement following the California Supreme Court Decision on Proposition 8:

"Today’s decision by the California Supreme Court is welcome. The issue the court decided was whether California citizens validly exercised their right to amend their own constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. The court has overwhelmingly affirmed their action.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recognizes the deeply held feelings on both sides, but strongly affirms its belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. The bedrock institution of marriage between a man and a woman has profound implications for our society. These implications range from what our children are taught in schools to individual and collective freedom of religious expression and practice.

Accordingly, the Church stands firmly for what it believes is right for the health and well-being of society as a whole. In doing so, it once again affirms that all of us are children of God, and all deserve to be treated with respect. The Church believes that serious discussion of these issues is not helped when extreme elements on both sides of the debate demonize the other."

Yes on 8 Campaign Applauds California Supreme Court Decision

Andrew Pugno, General Counsel of ProtectMarriage.com - the official proponents of Prop. 8 - said the Court's ruling is a great victory for the people of California and for the millions of supporters of traditional marriage.

"California voters won a major victory today as the California Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold Proposition 8 and leave the definition of traditional marriage in California's constitution as decided by voters in the November, 2008 election.

Andrew Pugno, General Counsel of ProtectMarriage.com - the official proponents of Prop. 8 - said the Court's ruling is a great victory for the people of California and for the millions of supporters of traditional marriage.

"We commend the California Supreme Court for upholding the right of the people to define marriage in our constitution," said Pugno. "The Court recognized that the power to amend the constitution ultimately belongs to the people. We are very grateful to the Court for agreeing with the arguments we presented in our briefs and in oral argument last March. For the second time now, the people have decided that marriage is reserved for a man and a woman and the Court has appropriately respected their decision."

Over 7 million people voted in favor of Proposition 8 last November. It won by a margin of 600,000 votes and achieved roughly the same percentage of support as President Barack Obama did nationally. Post election surveys show that Californians continue to support traditional marriage. If anything, support for gay marriage has declined while support for traditional marriage has increased.

Today's ruling closes the door on the latest challenges to the state's election process in an ongoing effort to legalize same-sex marriage in California. If gay activists wish to legalize same-sex marriage now, they will have to go to the people and seek their permission - something they have never done. Pugno promised that any future efforts to repeal Prop. 8 will be vigorously contested. ProtectMarriage.com will also vigorously oppose any further efforts in the state and federal courts to invalidate or weaken Prop 8.

According to Ron Prentice, Chairman of the ProtectMarriage.com Executive Committee, the Committee will now shift its focus on the long-term goal of continuing to protect marriage and strengthen family values.

"We will now turn our attention to public education and outreach so that citizens come to better understand and appreciate the many benefits that traditional marriage provides for society and our families," said Prentice. "The institution of marriage as we have always understood it has served California and our broader society since the nation was founded. We look forward to working with young people, churches, ethnic communities and all of California with an ongoing discussion about the benefits of traditional marriage."

A Mormons Voice On Prop 8 Being Upheld

It's "OFFICIAL", the California Supreme Court has ruled that Proposition 8 will be upheld; but also that some 18 thousand same-sex marriages WILL remain legal. Sounds pretty crazy, doesn't it? The old saying that "you can't have your cake, and eat it too" must not be familiar with the highest court in California, because they seem to be hoping that THEY can!

Here's my take on this whole California fiasco, for those who are interesting in knowing how MY great state has gotten themselves into such a MARRIAGE mess! And yes, this current situation has all the elements of mass confusion, and a great lack of credibility. Ultimately, we can thank once again, the California Supreme Court judges for our State's heated divisiveness.

Unfortunately, what many "others" would prefer to do, is blame the state of marriage in California, on the Mormons. I suppose that the Church is a much easier target for supporters of same-sex marriage to be critical of, than placing the blame where it actually belongs.

Here's the run-down:

In 2000, California VOTERS passed Proposition 22, which clearly stated:

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

Clear and simple. Many like to refer to this as the "Mormon Ban on Gay marriage" here in the Golden State.

Fast-forward to May/June of 2008. After debating Proposition 22's validity - The California Supreme court decided to OVERTURN Proposition 22 -- and in doing so, this temporarily made same-sex marriage in California, LEGAL.

Now my first reaction was "Hey"! I personally spent a lot of hours walking up and down streets in my neighborhood, to educate and encourage people then, to stand up and defend traditional marriage, by voting YES on 22 - to preserve only ONE definition of marriage.

Yes, I was disturbed that same-sex marriage was now legal in California, changing that definition -- but I was much more concerned about MY VOTE being disenfranchised by a few judges, legislating from the bench!

About the current 18K same-sex marriages that are STILL legal in California -- these were performed through this backdoor approach, that were GRANTED gays, for this very short period BEFORE the VOTERS of California decided to say "THAT'S NOT COOL", and placed Proposition 8 on the ballot.

Proposition 8 was placed on the ballot to RESTATE and REESTABLISH what Proposition 22 - had spoken the first time. Californians who cast their VOTE for Prop 22, and then had that vote disenfranchised by the California Supreme Court ONCE, decided that they better speak a little bit LOUDER, with Proposiiton 8. This time, VOTERS decided to go for an amendment to the CALIFORNIA STATE CONSTITUTION.

Once again, CALIFORNIA VOTERS who support traditional marriage were heard on this issue. Proposition 8 passed, with 53% of the vote. And now, our Constitution will have added to it that...

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California"

So, if the courts UPHELD Proposition 8, as above - how in the heck can they justify legally recognizing those 18K same-sex marriages? That doesn't make sense!

Your right. It doesn't. Many felt that IF Prop 8 were upheld, that the courts also MUST honor the complete and very clear wording as stated in the amendment. Those who authored and passed the amendment certainly knew what "we" were asking and voting to amend.

Here again is the problem. The California Supreme Court were basically, in a good old fashioned "pickle". Think about it... remember, it was the court that had overturned California's VOTE on Prop 22, which then created the way for 18K same-sex couples to marry during a very short period, before Prop 8 came in to course correct. Now, the PEOPLE have spoken AGAIN on PRESERVING traditional marriage!

Now "we" have this handful of gays, who "legally" were granted the "right" to marry -- freaking out, because the "MORMONS" don't want them to be happy. I bet those judges are so thankful for us Mormons right now!

Wait a minute guys! It is NOT the Mormons who are causing you all of your pain and suffering here. Believe it or not, we feel pretty bad about what the Supreme Court judges are putting you through. ALL of us!

It is apparent, that the Supreme Court judges KNEW, after now TWICE realizing that the MAJORITY of Californians support traditional marriage - that to IGNORE us AGAIN - would be FATAL for them, politically. And they knew it on a 6 to 1 ruling to uphold Proposition 8! And they also knew, that by THOROUGHLY upholding Proposition 8, as stated -- THEY would be admitting fault in ORIGINALLY overturning Prop 22!

But, you know how sketchy some politicians are -- they play both sides of the aisle in an attempt to make EVERYBODY happy! Remember that old saying, about the cake? Like I said, guess those judges never heard that one, eh?

The math just doesn't make sense to those of us who are NOT trying to twist an issue one way or the other, ignoring the rules of the game. Clearly, the judges through some distorted rendering, are hoping to pander to gays, by upholding these few SSM in California. Think about it - WHAT if they had not? You and I both know, that you don't want to be on the wrong side of the homosexual community. It just ain't pretty, as we Mormons know, all too well.

In my opinion, the bottom line is that these judges who now occupy a seat on the California Supreme Court, DO NOT have the best interest of the State of California, and its PEOPLE - as their motivation. The actions of these judges, pertaining to MARRIAGE in California, have clearly exposed agendas and true motivations -- and in their wake... have left neighbors suspicious of one another.

LET THE PEOPLE determine and create the environment in their communities - through free and open elections. YOUR VOTE AND MY VOTE -- must have meaning and validity. Every opinion counts, via VOICE or VOTE. That is true EQUALITY! What we don't need, are corrupt judges legislating from the bench, via their PRIDE filled agendas.

Today, ALL Californians have won a very important VICTORY! Many feel that the legalization of same-sex marriages across the board are inevitable. Although I do NOT support redefining marriage and will continue to defend traditional marriage -- I DO honor your VOTE and voice in this matter -- now and in the future; regardless of whether we agree or not.

The California Supreme Court judges had a very important opportunity TODAY, to reaffirm their decision of June 2008, when they overturned Proposition 22. They did NOT take it! Instead, with a great lack of COURAGE - they have continued to create CHAOS in California!

Sarah Palin - Her Greatest Test For Life

When Americans were first introduced to Sarah Palin, at the Republican National Convention, as the Vice-Presidential running mate of John McCain - she literally took the nation by storm. I recall, listening to her speech then, and the feelings of "goodness" that overwhelmed me at that moment. Many immediately speculated about whether Sara Palin was a "Mormon" - due to her Idaho roots, and strong moral fiber.

We couldn't be certain about her future at the time, but in the months that have followed, Sarah Palin continues to exemplify everything that we as members of the LDS Church, would consider to be "good".

I've liked Sara from the beginning. Right away, I blogged about her as a "Well Behaved Woman" - and even had fun drawing a few parallels between us.

Sarah Palin has a strong Christian belief system. She has no problem having her voice heard on those topics and issues that today, are extremely controversial. Those who oppose her positions, for many reasons, do so mostly, because she is willing to not only stand in her opinions, but she is willing to do so along side of her FAITH! That is what I admire about Sarah Palin, MOST.

Daily, she willingly takes opportunities to DO the right thing -- and she does it with honor. Governor Sara Palin, recently was invited to speak at Vanderburgh County's Right to Life banquet in Evansville, Indiana, given on April 16th, 2009.

Listening and watching Sarah Palin, express her very personal feelings and experience of choosing LIFE for her special needs son, Trig - touched me deeply. I am so grateful, that there are women in the world today, with such courage - who are willing to stand up for what is RIGHT, under all circumstances.

Not Speculating About Proposition 8 Decision Thursday

I'm not here to speculate about the decision that the California Supreme Court will announce, any day now. However, upon waking up this morning and checking emails, I found that the rumors are once again flying about the status of Proposition 8.

This time, it is unconfirmed reports that the courts will announce their much anticipated decision on the fate of Prop 8 on Thursday- tomorrow. These reports apparently originate from a gay tabloid called The Advocate. It seems pretty solid to those who are reporting this information. Apparently San Francisco police are already setting up barriers around the court house and in areas of the city known to be places of gathering, for the homosexual community. The word on the streets in SF is that the gays are NOT going to like the decision, thus the preparation for crowd control are being made.

That was not speculation, at least not on my part. I'm just passing along the information. Right? Anyway, as I wrote just the other day about the decision by the California Supreme Courts - it is NOT going to come down quietly, regardless of the decision. And, by the buzz that is happening right now about a possible verdict as soon as tomorrow - the give away seems to be the amount of preparation that is being deemed necessary. BTW, many of these reports are coming from people who live right there - in the city.

So whether the decision as to IF Proposition 8 will be upheld, is tomorrow or not - our days of waiting are numbered. It's a good thing too, because the pressure is building for those anxiously awaiting their RALLY! Anyway, if tomorrow is the case, we would know by 10 am, pacific time. Which for me, is any minute.

Update: No decisions will be handed down tomorrow, regarding Prop 8 - see HERE. As suspected, just another rumor springing forth from tightly wound up "other" side. Ugh!

"All California courts will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2009. The filing of any opinion by the California Supreme Court that would normally occur on Monday, May 25, will instead be filed on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m.

If any opinion is to be filed on Tuesday, May 26, a Notice of Intended Filing announcing the court's intent to file the opinion will be posted on the California Courts Web site by Friday, May 22, 2009, at this link: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/supreme/."

New Mormon Ad Is Outta This World!

I've been wanting to post the latest video from Homefront for a few weeks now, but other topics or issues kept seeming to take precedence. Really important stuff, like the launch of the new Mormon Channel radio station. Very cool!

This newest Sci-fi Mormon Ad is adorable, as they all are. Like I've said before, the quality of the Homefront videos are outstanding - and a pleasure to not only watch, but share with our friends. I especially like posting them on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc...

It seems as though anything that encourages people to strengthen family relationships, is well received, online. Our love for our families, surpasses many differences that we might have with others.

Some of the BEST "small conversations" that I've had online, with those who are NOT of our faith, have had to do with very important issues, having to do with the FAMILY. I believe that the ability to connect on the "family" level with those who also feel strongly about family, enables us to teach and share gospel principles in ways, that we might never have been given the opportunity.

Are Your Children Older Than You?

My favorite part of not starting my church meetings until the afternoon, is the quiet solitude these Sabbath mornings provide. My spirit seems to always recognize that Sunday, is the Lord's Day; and upon waking is filled with gratitude for all that He has done for His children. I will admit, that His blessings for all, become very personal. I think that's the way He would want us to feel. Don't you?

Right now, as I write, my son Alton is playing the piano. I can't tell you how this fills my soul with gratitude for him, and the young man he has become. He recently told his dad and I, that we are going to miss him when he leaves for college, in the Fall. He thinks we will be bored. How funny is that? He doesn't even begin to think that perhaps we are ready for a rest - as we have been parenting now for 30 years! I love that about him. I love him. But, I can assure you, we won't be bored. However, we will miss his beautiful spirit in our home and the joy he gives us each day, just to be around him.

Alton graduates from high school in less than three weeks. He plans to immediately take off with a few of his buddies for a surfing trip, along the coast of California. He is counting the days to FREEDOM! He will then return from his trip and work through the summer to save money. In August, we will drive him up to Idaho, where he will attend iBYU for the fall/spring semesters. Things will most certainly be more quiet around here, but not because he is a loud kid.

Alton is full of light - a lot of it. He came that way. He's been seriously tested -- and passed. At least for now. He is converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His personal conversion has come through serious life's experiences - and through study, and also by faith. He is truly a remarkable young man.

Have you ever had the feeling that as Spirits, your children may very well be older than you? I know of no doctrine where we are taught that we come to earth in any type of chronological order. In fact, as I understand our premortal existence and our placement here upon this earth - age had nothing to do with it.

If we are supposed to learn from those who are older and wiser than we ourselves are - then this question must be given some consideration. Boyd K. Packer, in his classic book, "Teach Ye Diligently" had this to say -- I will paraphrase...

"Parents will learn more from their children, than their children will ever learn from them."

I came upon this truth during the second time that I read his book, and I don't recall that quote the first time around. I obviously didn't understand what Elder Packer was teaching me, at the time. However, when I read this AFTER I had parented a few teens - and was just coming out on the other end of some pretty crazy stuff - LIFE looked much different! It definitely caught my attention. I was in a very humbled state, to say the least.

Since then, I have pondered on that eternal truth, many many times, and concluded that yes, parents are the students -- of this, I KNOW!

Real Response To Proposition 8 Verdict Will Be Loud!

Cyberspace has been eerily quiet over the last month or so, about how the decision from the California Supreme Court hearing will go down for Proposition 8. The court has 90 days to deliberate before it hands down its verdict. June 3rd is the deadline. Guess what that means? It means that sometime over the next approximately two weeks, California will have another major uprising, compliments of the LGBT community.

Either way, they are going to once again be in the faces of the conservative YES on 8 supporters. Whether Proposition 8 is upheld or it is not - supporters of same-sex marriage will have a very loud and public response. I'm tired just thinking about the possibilities. However, I can't help but wonder what either scenario will look like?

I hang out on Twitter, quite a bit. I receive Google Alerts for those things that I am interested in keeping my fingers on the pulse about. I stay pretty well informed. I don't know how it happened? Apparently, the homosexual community on Twitter "thought" they had heard that Prop 8 had been overturned -- and boy did the tweets start flying. Well, at least from what I heard.

When I did hear what had happened, all I could think about was how grateful I was to have NOT gotten caught up in the irresponsible distributing of wrong information. Distributing credible information on Twitter, about what you know - is what makes Twitter so successful as an outlet for any and everything. Twitter is not known as a rumor mill. So how could such a thing have happened?

The best way I can explain it, is that a group that wanted something so bad, heard only what they wanted to hear - and FIRED! I also couldn't help but think that perhaps this misfire of information was intentional. Think about it? Twitter has become a very powerful source for not only distributing information, but also receiving instant feedback from real people.

There's one thing that IS for sure, the gay community are PASSIONATE! And so, as we prepare to hear the REAL court ruling any day now - as to whether the California Supreme Court will uphold Proposition 8, or not, you can be certain that it won't happen quietly - either way.

I NEVER Really Liked Tupperware Parties Either...

I'm feeling quite rebellious right about now. I know - that's not very attractive, is it. In my rebellion, I recognize my ingratitude as well. Here's the thing... my good friend, whom I also consider my partner in crime, as well as my "study buddy" is basically forcing me to do something that in my not very humble opinion, is about as bad as asking me to have a Tupperware party. Been there - done that. I can't tell you how happy I am to NOT be having, going or giving any kind of obligatory "parties" any longer!

I'm all grown-up now. For the most part, women I associate with don't do those things any more. Honestly, I'm not sure what's gotten into my friend. There was a time, during my Mormon mommy years - that getting out of the house, and getting together with the girls was worth just about any excuse. Even a Tupperware party. At least it was something I could use. No more. I use Ziplocs, now.

So what's all this murmuring about, you ask? Diana Dowden, a.k.a. blogger "Inthedoghouse" has informed me of an award that she has decided to bestow upon me, wherein I am required to make a list "about me", and pass this burden onto some other unsuspecting nice women out there, who also blogs.

Dearest Diana - when you read this, I trust it will find you laughing. I will expect you to explain yourself and perhaps even apologize for such unfamiliar behavior on your part. I'm thinking this "chain-letter" of sorts, has something to do with your recent "Mormon Mommmy Blogs" piece that you wrote over on Hubpages. I'm right, aren't I?

If you're wondering what award I have been honored with, it is "Queen of ALL Things - Awe Summm!!!. As you may agree, that bestowal is actually a long time off for this Well Behaved Mormon Woman. I like what Doghouse has to say about the award. It sounds really good. You can read it here.

Insights To Things As They Really Are By Elder Bednar

Elder David A. Bednar addressed the Young Single Adults of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a CES Fireside, at Brigham Young University, Idaho. Although I am not a YSA, I really enjoy listening to these firesides whenever I have the opportunity. Anyone can do so. They are always televised on BYU Broadcasting, and available on the Internet; just like our General Conference addresses are. I would highly recommend taking advantage of these inspired, "finger-on-the-pulse" talks - that are regularly given to the rising generation.

Elder Bednar begins his talk...

"I long have been impressed with the simple and clear definition of truth set forth in the Book of Mormon: “The Spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be; wherefore, these things are manifested unto us plainly, for the salvation of our souls”.

Throughout Elder Bednar's address, I was spellbound by the way in which this Apostle of the Lord, took seemingly basic doctrines of the gospel, and carefully applied them in very personal ways, which are highly targeted to our lives today. A teaching style, of which the Master Himself - emulated perfectly. It was indeed, artful - to say the least. In such an affected state, I personally took the time to transcribe from the video, his text. I would loved to have posted it myself, but due to copyright, I refrained.

Elder Bednar spoke profoundly about "Things As They Really Are". He taught the doctrine of The Plan of Salvation, like few others I have ever heard. He specifically centered his teachings upon the importance of our physical bodies as the central vehicle through which we have come to earth for experiences in mortality. It is through the use of our physical bodies in a fallen world - that we may ultimately progress beyond this life.

Elder Bednar quoted the Prophet Joseph Smith's teachings, regarding our physical bodies...

“We came to this earth that we might have a body and present it pure before God in the celestial kingdom. The great principle of happiness consists in having a body. The devil has no body, and herein is his punishment. He is pleased when he can obtain the tabernacle of man, and when cast out by the Savior he asked to go into the herd of swine, showing that he would prefer a swine’s body to having none. All beings who have bodies have power over those who have not. The devil has no power over us only as we permit him; the moment we revolt at anything which comes from God, the devil takes power."

He went on to instruct that "Our physical bodies make possible a breadth, a depth, and an intensity of experience that simply could not be obtained in our premortal estate."

Upon laying a powerful foundation of truth, as to the necessity of our physical bodies to our experience here upon this earth -- Elder Bednar proceeds to expose some of the many diabolical ways with which Lucifer demises to thwart the very means by which we came here to progress!

Elder Bednar again, reminds us that because Lucifer will never have a body, and he understands perfectly the POWER that we have through our own physical experiences to progress - that his design is to encourage us without realizing it, to "minimize" our physical bodies. He taught us that one of the ways we minimize our bodies here, is through "fidelity" to those things that do not produce that which is GOOD!

"Because a physical body is so central to the Father’s plan of happiness and our spiritual development, we should not be surprised that Lucifer seeks to frustrate our progression by tempting us to use our bodies improperly. One of the ultimate ironies of eternity is that the adversary, who is miserable precisely because he has no physical body, invites and entices us to share in his misery through the improper use of our bodies. The very tool he does not have and cannot use is thus the primary target of his attempts to lure us to physical and spiritual destruction."

The attacks of the adversary are many, and Elder Bednar through his own apostolic visions of "things as they really are", warned the youth of the Church as to Lucifer's modern warfare; the misuse of extreme physical activities and the improper fidelity to technology.

"You may now be asking yourself, “But Brother Bednar, you began today by talking about the importance of a physical body in our eternal progression. Are you suggesting that video gaming and various types of computer-mediated communication can play a role in minimizing the importance of our physical bodies?” That is precisely what I am declaring. Let me explain.

We live at a time when technology can be used to replicate reality, to augment reality, and to create virtual reality. For example, a medical doctor can use software simulation to gain valuable experience performing a complicated surgical operation without ever putting a human patient at risk. A pilot in a flight simulator repeatedly can practice emergency landing procedures that could save many lives. And architects and engineers can use innovative technologies to model sophisticated design and construction methods that decrease the loss of human life and damage to buildings caused by earthquakes and other natural disasters."

Elder Bednar then proceeds to go into a detailed explanation of what he is trying to teach us about "FIDELITY". Please read his entire talk "Things As They Really Are".

Today I raise an apostolic voice of warning about the potentially stifling, suffocating, suppressing, and constraining impact of some kinds of cyberspace interactions and experiences upon our souls. The concerns I raise are not new; they apply equally to other types of media, such as television, movies, and music. But in a cyber world, these challenges are more pervasive and intense. I plead with you to beware of the sense-dulling and spiritually destructive influence of cyberspace technologies that are used to produce high fidelity and that promote degrading and evil purposes.

If the adversary cannot entice us to misuse our physical bodies, then one of his most potent tactics is to beguile you and me as embodied spirits to disconnect gradually and physically from things as they really are. In essence, he encourages us to think and act as if we were in our premortal, unembodied state. And, if we let him, he can cunningly employ some aspects of modern technology to accomplish his purposes. Please be careful of becoming so immersed and engrossed in pixels, texting, ear buds, twittering, online social networking, and potentially addictive uses of media and the Internet that you fail to recognize the importance of your physical body and miss the richness of person-to-person communication. Beware of digital displays and data in many forms of computer-mediated interaction that can displace the full range of physical capacity and experience.

In Elder Bednar's address, "Things As They Really Are", he taught vital doctrine. In my simple blog post about his counsel, I have mentioned so little. Surely this is quite inadequate an attempt to summarize the words and counsel of a prophet of God. I hope that you will take the time to either listen or read the entire address. Elder Bednar touched on very pertinent topics about our world today, that are very specific and personal to each one of us - as individuals. I have many thoughts about these teachings, for myself. Personally, I am so grateful for modern revelation that comes to us through the living oracles of God. It is a blessing, to know TRUTH when it is clearly taught.

To better know how "these things" of which he taught affect each one of us, Elder Bednar extended a very personal invitation:

"For your happiness and protection, I invite you to study more diligently the doctrine of the plan of salvation—and to prayerfully ponder the truths we have reviewed. I offer two questions for consideration in your personal pondering and prayerful studying:

1. Does the use of various technologies and media invite or impede the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost in your life?
2. Does the time you spend using various technologies and media enlarge or restrict your capacity to live, to love, and to serve in meaningful ways?

You will receive answers, inspiration, and instruction from the Holy Ghost suited to your individual circumstances and needs. I repeat and affirm the teaching of the Prophet Joseph: “All beings who have bodies have power over those who have not. The devil has no power over us only as we permit him.”

These eternal truths about the importance of our physical bodies will fortify you against the deception and the attacks of the adversary. One of my deepest desires for you is an ever-increasing testimony of and appreciation for the Resurrection—even your own resurrection with a celestial, exalted body “because of your faith in [the Lord Jesus Christ] according to the promise”.

Carrie Prejean - Miss California Keeps Crown Against All Odds

When the announcement came that Carrie Prejean will KEEP her title as Miss California and be able to wear her crown with honor -- I couldn't believe that I found myself HAPPY about it. After all people, she posed partially nude! So I ask myself the question - WHY are we all cheering Donald Trump's decision?

WHAT ARE WE THINKING?

Lets be real here. IF Carrie Prejean would NOT have stood up for traditional marriage in the way that she did at the Miss U.S.A. Pageant, most LDS members would likely be frowning right now - instead of finding ourselves as advocates for Carrie Prejean. At first glance, I'm not sure how I feel about myself right now, either? Some people might even accuse the religious right, for being moral hypocrites. That concerns me - a bit.

But, that is precisely WHY I am so proud of Carrie Prejean and will continue to advocate for her right to continue on as Miss California and proudly wear the crown that she WON! I updated my Facebook status this morning, right after I heard Carrie would keep her crown...

"Pleased to hear that Miss California will keep her crown, and NOT be penalized in public for her beliefs OR personal choices. I agree with the decision and why it was made -- otherwise, we would have been dealing with some major hypocrisy by our liberal media."

At a time, when the Mormon Church, more than ever before is going public about the value of VIRTUE - doesn't it seem timely that our opposition would throw out a wrench like this and perhaps think that we might be shamed into NOT supporting Carrie Prejean? Seems like a pretty good deterrent to me, to keep GOOD from prevailing and being defended.

Do I support Carrie Prejean in her decision to pose partially nude as a model? Of course not. From what I gather, these were most likely regretfully done in her "youth" - as she did not disclose them to the pageant officials. That was one of the major complaints of pageant officials, as a reason to disqualify her. However, you and I both know that those photos of themselves, in today's world - would not have threatened Miss California's crown.

Carrie Prejean was and is being targeted by the liberal left because of her position to defend traditional marriage; and do so on a NATIONAL level.

As members of the LDS Church, we are actively teaching the youth of the Church that in order to find happiness - they must commit to a virtuous life. We know what a difficult commitment this is, particularly in the world today. Right a long side of teaching virtue - we teach the the wonderful principle and doctrine of repentance.

Our adversary, would love nothing more than to take away the POWER of the rising generation through hopelessness, shame and the inability to DO RIGHT, because of a lack in perfection.

Carrie Prejean, in a statement made directly following Donald Trump's VERY public announcement to over 100 reporters - and with her parents in the front row - humbly and in a heartfelt manner, THANKED GOD...

Bristol Palin Made A Mistake - The Baby Is Not!

Bristol Palin was interviewed on the Today Show, (see video below) and right off the bat was asked a question that could have twisted her response in such a way, that would have easily distorted how she really feels about her newborn baby. Bristol Palin chose to keep her baby and not have an abortion. Sadly, there is no doubt that the liberal media would have loved to have had her give some kind of clues, that abortion may have been the better choice.

But she didn't. She stood up for life. However, she did say that she wished that she could have had her baby a few years in the future. She adores him. And that is her point! She's out to share with other young people, that teen pregnancy is not the way to go. It's apparent now, that Bristol more clearly understands that abstinence is the choice that she should have made in the beginning.

I don't think any of us can even begin to imagine what the Palin family has had to go through in order to stand for LIFE. What a tribute to Sara Palin as a mother, that she - a truly WELL BEHAVED WOMAN, has raised such a beautiful WELL BEHAVED "YOUNG" WOMAN!

I'm so grateful to see that Bristol has not allowed the media into shaming her because of an out of wedlock pregnancy -- but that Bristol is taking the opportunity to teach other young women, through her experience -- a better way!

A Modest Win For Mrs. Texas - Mormon Bonnie Hubert

This morning over on LDS Church News, I read the story about a Mormon woman, Bonnie Hubert - who just won the title of Mrs. Texas. The focus of the story was on Bonnie Hubert's modest dress that she wore, during the pageant; and her saga to ensure that her dress would reflect her LDS values of modesty.

I really appreciated this story, because when I first began reading the story of a modestly dressed LDS beauty pageant contestant, I was assuming that this would be about a MISS title. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the article was covering a modesty challenge for an LDS WOMAN. I'm not so sure younger LDS girls, realize what a challenge this can be for their mothers and leaders -- long after their PROM years.

"I think the world sends a message that in order to be beautiful you have to reveal your body," said Sister Hubert. "I will say that it takes work, you have to want to live your standards, but you can find clothes that are your style that are modest."

Most LDS women that I know, also need to meet the challenge of dressing modestly, just as their daughters do. Most of us are not likely shopping for pageant dresses or Prom dresses - but we still have many of the same challenges that our young women experience. Finding a modest one-piece bathing suit or tankini - is a major adventure for ALL LDS girls and women.

I will concede that for the most part, LDS women are not as tempted as our young women are - to lower our standards to BE like the rest of the gang. However, when it comes to wanting to maintain our "Mormon" standards - all LDS girls from youth to adulthood, are faced with similar challenges throughout our entire lives.

Congratulation to Bonnie Hubert, for winning the title of Mrs. Texas and for standing out in the crowd so modestly!

Bonnie Hubert, in my opinion - is one Well Behaved Mormon Woman, that I am proud to call "sister".
